The Story

The Center for Health Communication is in a unique position — housed between the two major college at the University of Texas at Austin — the Moody College of Communication & the newly-established Dell Medical School. The challenge from a design standpoint was to find a unique visual identity which balanced the two different collegiate styles. And, of course, maintain a connection to the university’s brand guidelines.

MY ROLE

I was hired on contract for the Center for Health Communications as the Senior Graphic Designer. In this position I worked as both the visuals lead on the in-house team as well as the lead on several contracts, including one significant contract with the State of Texas research health communications & the opioid crisis.

NOTE: This contract position is not part of my online portfolio as that work is currently under embargo. I would be happy to provide more information via email or in person. The campaign involved large-scale project management, presenting visuals as part of the team to the our state partners and working with an local advertising agency to develop and deliver materials in a timely manner. It was an honor to work as a small part of such an amazing team and hopefully spark a change in Texas to turn the tide on the opioid abuse.

The Inspiration

INTERDISCIPLINARY, HEALTH COMMUNICATION, INNOVATION

The Results

The UT brand identity actually encouraged the use of gradients. I used the traditional burnt orange to symbolize Communication and the blue from the color palette to symbolize Dell Med. The Center logo is always placed in the orange part of the gradient.

Once we had some basics out of the way, we began to develop templates and common graphics for the most used elements of communication for the Center. Namely, powerpoint, social and email. Over time, we also worked together to develop some simple flyers & reports.

Below I’m including a little report we drafted up to showcase our year’s work to the Dean. He was very pleased. In fact, he liked the powerpoint so much, he asked us to send it along to his office. Another win!
